Release all port planking and garboard at stem. Drive out or cut remaining drifts. Remove false stem. Make patterns to guide further work on stem. Remove packing at billethead joint. Withdraw or cut drifts. Cut as required to remove billethead.

Prepare for cleaning up seams.

Begin stem repair: release planking at hood ends and beyond to allow access; drive out drifts and replace with temporary bolts.
